Overview Effect
The Overview Effect is a shift in perspective often reported by astronauts after having seen the Earth from above for the first time. With no borders and in a vast, dark sky the earth at once seems small and insignificant as well as intricate and awe-inspiring. Astronomer Carl Sagan wrote, “There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.” At Overview Effect Bodywork, I work to offer this cognitive shift to my clients as we move through the world together: to recognize at once our communal intersections and the borderlessness within our own bodies, layered with the intricate connection of our communities. Stemming from what both makes us unique and what connects us, we can work together bring new perspectives and possibilities for experiencing ourselves and interacting with the world around us. During this time of global pandemic, our culture has become more polarized and dis-connected. I offer my practices as a way to process this Collective Grief, find ways to move through it and to re-connect with each other and ourselves. Being welcomed home to our bodies in a way that makes it possible to fully inhabit them helps us makes space for others around us to do the same. Using movement, massage, tarot meditations and other whole-hearted practices, I aim to welcome you home to yourself – the only home you’ve ever known.
